Mike Alter
Mike has spent his 20+ year career working with growth focused companies, organizations, and people towards maximizing value and continually pushing to achieve bold ambition with a particular focus in the wine and agriculture industries.
Since co-founding Alter Ego in 2019, Mike has worked with a broad range of clients from small family-owned businesses to family offices and private equity firms to high-growth middle market companies. Some highlights of his recent work include:

Developed a value maximization strategy for a well known Napa Valley winery and currently working with the winery leaders and shareholders to implement the strategy with substantial growth generated over the last 2 years

Developed a growth strategy for a multifaceted fine wine marketplace and conducted financial due diligence on a subsequent cross-border merger

Co-led the sale strategy, process and resulting sale of Shafer Vineyards to Shinsegae Properties

Advised on several vineyard sales and purchases by clients

Completed due diligence assignments for several clients around multiple notable wine industry deals as well as potential vineyard investments

Developed a value maximization plan for luxury Australian wine assets and working to implement to the strategy

Assisted a family office in the development of an Agtech-focused
investment strategy

Prior to co-founding Alter Ego, Mike has over a decade of operating experience in the wine industry including serving as President and COO of Hunneus Vintners and Vice President of Global Supply Strategy at Treasury Wine Estates

Before entering the wine industry, Mike spent over 6 years at Booz Allen Hamilton (now Strategy&) working on growth strategy and large scale transformations across numerous industries

Mike has earned an MBA from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, a Master of Oenology from the University of Adelaide (Australia), and a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point
